Getting Started
This guide will help you set up MailShield and start monitoring your email security.
Step 1: Create an Account
- Visit mailshield.app and click Sign Up
- Enter your email address
- Click the magic link sent to your inbox to verify your account

MailShield uses passwordless authentication via magic links for enhanced security.
Step 2: Add Your First Domain
After signing in, you'll be prompted to add your first domain:
- Click Add Domain
- Enter your domain name (e.g.,
example.com) - MailShield will automatically scan your domain's DNS records
Step 3: Verify Domain Ownership
To verify you own the domain, add a TXT record to your DNS:
- Go to your DNS provider's management console
- Add a new TXT record with the verification code provided by MailShield
- Click Verify in MailShield

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate, though most changes are visible within minutes.
Step 4: Configure DMARC Reporting
To receive DMARC reports from email providers, update your DMARC record to include MailShield's reporting address:
v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:your-report-id@reports.mailshield.appReplace your-report-id with the Report ID shown in your domain settings.
Step 5: Review Your Security Score
Once configured, MailShield will:
- Check all DNS records related to email security
- Calculate a security score based on your configuration
- Identify issues and provide recommendations
Understanding Your Dashboard
After adding a domain, you'll see:
Security Score
A grade from A to F indicating your overall email security posture:
| Grade | Score | Status |
|---|---|---|
| A | 90-100 | Excellent |
| B | 80-89 | Good |
| C | 70-79 | Fair |
| D | 60-69 | Poor |
| F | 0-59 | Critical |
DNS Checks
Individual status for each security protocol:
- ✅ Valid: Correctly configured
- ⚠️ Warning: Works but could be improved
- ❌ Error: Missing or misconfigured
Reports
Once DMARC reporting is configured, you'll see:
- Aggregate Reports: Daily summaries from ISPs
- Report Statistics: Pass/fail rates over time
